How to Make Faux Croissants

French Consul How to Make Faux Croissants

There’s something undeniably wonderful about the scent of freshly baked croissants wafting through your kitchen. But when time (or skills!) are short and cravings are strong, this faux version delivers all the buttery flakiness and celebrates the joy of effortless baking.

Inspired by my video tutorial below, here’s how to create these delightful pastries with minimal effort and maximum satisfaction. Because sometimes, the simplest pleasures are the sweetest.

Ingredients:

  • 3 sheets of frozen puff pastry, thawed
  • 1 egg, beaten (for egg wash)
  • Melted Butter
  • Optional fillings: Nutella or jam

Instructions:

  1. Preheat the oven to 180°C (350°F)
  2. Prepare the pastry: Place the thawed puff pastry sheet on a lightly floured surface.
  3. Cut into triangles: Using a sharp knife, slice the pastry into triangles.
  4. Add fillings: Place a small amount of your chosen filling at the wide end of each triangle then brush the egg wash over the remaining pastry.
  5. Roll the croissants: Starting from the wide end, roll each triangle towards the point to form a crescent shape.
  6. Apply melted butter: Place the rolled croissants on a baking tray lined with baking paper. Brush the tops with melted butter to achieve a golden finish.
  7. Bake: Bake in the preheated oven for 15 minutes (fan forced), or until puffed and golden brown.
  8. Cool and serve: Allow the croissants to cool slightly before serving warm.

Can't Stop at One?

These faux croissants are perfect for an afternoon treat, or any moment that calls for chocolate. Serve warm with a dusting of powdered sugar for added delight.
