Why I Choose Slow Fashion (And Why Linen Is My Favourite Fabric)

French Consul Slow Fashion Meg by Design

In a world that moves too fast, there’s something deeply beautiful about slowing down — even in the way we dress. Slow fashion is not just a trend; it’s a philosophy. It’s about choosing fewer, better things. It’s about celebrating craftsmanship, natural fibres, and timeless style.

Why I Choose Quality Over Quantity

Fast fashion demands constant buying, constant discarding. Slow fashion invites us to pause. To invest in pieces that feel good against the skin, that last, that carry a story. Pieces that make us feel like ourselves — not just for a season, but for years.

When I choose a garment, I ask:

  • Where and how was it made?
  • What materials were used?
  • Will I still love this in five years?

Why I Love Linen

Among all fabrics, linen holds a special place for me.

  • It’s timeless: A linen dress looks just as beautiful today as it did a century ago.
  • It’s sustainable: Linen uses less water and fewer chemicals than most fabrics, and the whole linen (flax) plant is utilised.
  • It’s beautifully imperfect: I love the texture, the wrinkles, the way it softens over time — and no need for an iron.
  • It’s trans-seasonal: it’s just as perfect in summer or layered for winter.

Whether it’s a simple dress, a tea towel, or a cushion cover, linen reflects a philosophy I hold close: Choose beauty that lasts. Choose a life well made.
